I LOVE THIS GRILL!
By FLGrillman
I love my Traeger! I was a bit weary getting my grill becasue of a few reviews saying that this grill can't sear a steak and a couple reviews stating about it being made in China now and how the quality isn't what it used to be so I looked a bit further into it. First of all there are a TON more positive reviews then bad. After reading more into it Traeger moved production from the USA to China a few years ago and did have some quality issues but apparently they've handled most if not all of them.
I saw a live demonstration at my local Costco and decided to pick it up. Steaks are killer! If you like your steaks blackened then it may not be the best grill for you because it's indirect cooking so it will not char or burn the food. You can still get grill marks but they're more faint then a propane or charcoal grill but I really don't care because the food TASTE AMAZING and it's the juiciest steak i've ever had! My wife and I have done Steaks, Chicken (best i've every had!!!), Sweet Potatoes, Asparagus, Corn, Bell Peppers etc... we've done Meat Loaf (WOW!), Did Tri-Tips for the 4th of July this year and stole the show at the bbq/party we went to and i've baked cookies a couple of times for dessert which are surprisingly amazing.
Traeger is really supposed to be known for it's Smoking and Slow Cooking abilities but I haven't really done much of that. I usually don't plan that far ahead.
I've had 5 different families over to eat and 4 of them now have their own Traegers after eating the food off my grill. Their kids were eating food off my grill that they usually would never eat at home. My friends wife who doesn't eat much red meat on 2 occasions couldn't get a enough of the Tri Tip and the Ribeye. Another friend of mine love his steaks "Black and Blue", I told him that I couldn't get it Black and Blue for him but I would keep it rare. I actually over cooked the Ribeye just a bit for him and he was still telling me how much he loved his steak. I honestly thought he was being nice until his wife told me he asked his wife to get him a Traeger for his birthday.
Overall this is a great grill! I think twice about going over to a friends when I know they're cooking on propane and find myself just inviting them to our house. (You will find yourself entertaining a bit more then usual) The food really does taste better on this grill. Hope this helps some of you in making your decision.

Great grill for a mechanic.
By Guitar Micheal
Bought Texas Grill last Aug. Love the food. Been broken 5 times. Including National Championship day, Easter, Mothers day and Today. Trager's response...you still have plenty of warranty left. Thanks. I didn't know I'd have to be a mechanic to own a Traeger, sure glad they moved production to China.
Update - I bought it in Aug of 2011 for 800 dollars. As a business owner I could never tell my customers, don't worry about the quality, just call me when ever you need my item to work, I'll have new parts to you in a few days. SO TODAY I GAVE IT AWAY, zero dollars, haul it away, ba bye. Traeger you can insult and disrespect someone else. I will do everything I can to discourage people from buying a Traeger. I have read the reviews and have found I am not the only one with these problems. The Traeger family have made their millions and I'm sure they don't give a crap, but if it is possible to keep one person from buying this grill, I will rejoyce in my accomplishment.
Update 2 - It is said I have no substance in this review. I hate this Traeger so much I will add a little substance. Many people love the "Traeger" flavor or the quality of food cooked on it. A pellet grill is a pellet grill when it comes to flavor. They all work basically the same with a very few exceptions. I now have a MAK Grill 2 star general. The Traeger is a Yugo (crappy car for those not familiar with the Yugo, lol) I had 2 ignition rods go out and the controller. It was most likely the controller in the first place. I had some rain get in the side and the pellets in the feed tube got wet. Could happen to anyone. BUT if you wand to work on a Traeger you must lay on the groud with a flashlight and look up under to work on it...IT SUCKS. If the pellets get wet you have to hammer it out of the unit. THey swell and become a very hard wood mass about 18" long. The auger is basically cemented into the grill. Now it is true the same would happen to any pellet grill exposed to rain water, Traeger does nothing to facilitate the removal of the pellets after use. The MAK has a little easy to use door in the hopper. If you want to change the type of pellets or if you know you are not going to use it for a while. Open the flap and out the drop. With a Traeger, get a vacuum and clean out what you can't dig out by hand. Oh!!! while you have the vacuum go ahead and clean the ash from the fire box also. And again the MAK has a door for that too. Just grab a small bucket and a whisk broom, you'll be done in 2 mins. Remember the laying on the ground to work on a Traeger? The MAK loads its components from the end, just kneel down with a screw driver and open it up...if you ever have too. Hell its so simple you might want to just to see the quality of your grill. I have 2 friends with Traegers and the paint is all cooked off and they look a hundred years old..The MAK is solid stainless, thick, heavy duty stainless. The wheels on a Traeger only turn on one end, kind of a pain to move, other grills have casters on all four legs so they are much easier to move aroud.
I don't want to continue but I did want to say, Pellet grills are great inventions and the food you can cook on one will blow the mind of the average weekend bbq/smoker guy (Like me), but a Traeger has several issues in my opinion and there are many other pellet grills out there and most cost a lot more. The grill I ended up with is twice as much. But it is better made, bigger and way more versatile, PLUS the MAK will sear steaks with grill marks and an open flame. Good luck and keep grillin'

Food tastes great but paint finish and quality poor, mine is rusting after 3.5 years
By Larry Sacks
I have made some great ribs, turkey and chicken on this grill and was a big fan until I contacted customer service recently.
My grill is always stored inside in the winter and is always covered in the summer time when it is not in use.
When I received my grill there were runs in the paint but I was not concerned about this as I have seen this before....well the runs eventually blistered off from heat and now the grill is rusting in these spots. Not to mention the wheels are pitting on the chrome and rusting as well.
I have a number of weber grills that stay out year round and I have never had a problem like this before.
When I contacted customer service I received the following response from the person that authorizes repairs:
Sorry about this issue. Unfortunately your grill is a ways outside of warranty, but I have a few things that I can offer as suggestions. First, you can use a fine grit sand paper to clean the grill and then paint it with a couple coats of any high temp paint that you can find. We offer color match paint for your grill here http://www.traegergrills.com/shop/detail/PAI207. The other option is that you can take the grill to be done professionally. Many of our customers have taken their grills to paint or fabrication shops to be refurbished and been very happy with the results.
Wow good to know a company thinks 3.5 years on a 3 year warranty is "a ways outside of warranty" and that many of there customers have had to take their grills to fabrication shops to be refurbished.
I will not consider a Traeger for my Lake House and would not recommend it to anyone I know unless they think a $1,000 smoker should only be a three year investment.
Prior to this I have been a big fan but a company is only as good their customer service...too bad.
